Well, after playing guitar for 20 years and always wanting to learn how to play drums, I’ve decided to buy a kit and give it a try. I figured I’d use this blog as a way to chart my progress and maybe impart any tips I find along the way. I’m curious to see how I’ll progress since I don’t plan on going to a teacher. I’ll be making use of whatever I can teach myself and drum lessons I can glean from books, videos, online stuff…pretty much whatever drum lessons I can do at home.
My music of choice is metal (old Megadeth and Metallica, Pantera, Lamb Of God, etc.) and prog bands like Dream Theater which of course feature some of the sickest drumming around so I won’t expect to be playing anything like that for quite awhile. Rest easy: Mike Portnoy’s job is safe! Luckily, I also like quite a bit of classic rock and some pop and punk so I imagine I’ll be able to find some stuff that’s easy to play and that I also like to listen to. I think I’m gonna start with some AC/DC, probably “Back In Black”. Drums are scheduled to arrive tomorrow…I’m psyched!
